We would like to introduce you to a 10 year old boy, Phat. Phat is one of five children and comes from a rural town located 40kms from Hanoi. We met Phat in 2012 when he became a part of our Christine Edith Sponsorship Program. Like many patients, he was born with diabetes and three of his siblings also suffer from the same condition.
In 2013 his older brother Tuy passed away which was a result of a lack of medication. This was a huge loss to his family and especially to Phat, as they were so close. Tuy used to look after Phat during the day when their parents were at work but now Phat must care for himself. His parents tend to worry a lot as he is so young, often forgetting his insulin injection and like any little boy; he struggles to resist lollies and delicious treats! Both of Phat’s parents are farmers and they struggle enough to make ends meet, let alone affording medication for their children. Sadly, due to the constant lack of medication, his siblings find it difficult to partake in physical labour, struggling to make an income and help support the family.
Recently Phat’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, unfortunately passing away last week. Phat’s mother had spent a lot of time at the hospital caring for her husband. Grief stricken and in despair they are unsure of how they will support themselves on a single wage.
Wanting to ease their burden in any way we can, we are looking to purchase a cow for his family, Our team is working hard to try and raise funds in order to purchase a cow for Phat and his family as soon as possible.
Admist all the tragedy there is some good news, thanks to the support thus far, Phat’s health has improved significantly and he now regularly attends school and is one of the top students in his class. He dreams of becoming healthier so that he can get a good education and eventually help is Mother and family.
If you would like to donate in order to help purchase a cow for Phat and his family, please mark the donation “Phat” and every dollar will go directly to them.
Thank you for all of your support, it wouldn’t be possible without you.
