We recently had Sigrid and Diana from the Hanoi International Women’s Club (HIWC) visit our Brittle Bone patients whilst they were staying at the National Hospital of Paediatrics for their latest check-ups. HIWC has been supporting our patients since 2014 and it was lovely for them to come along and meet a few of the children they support.
It was a hot, crowded day in the hospital but when we arrived all the families were very pleased and welcomed us in. The parents shared with Diana and Sigrid about their family life; what they did for work, how they took care of the children and the difficulties in affording medical treatment.
The children also shared about their experiences at school and the games and activities that they like to play such as badminton, swimming and reading. Two of our sponsor children, Duc and Dat shared how they had recently entered a handwriting competition and impressively young Dat won first prized and scored himself a new bicycle!
Another of our patients, Duong, a 10 year old boy has not been able to attend school as he is too small excitedly shared with Diana and Sigrid how his mother has taught him to read and that he loves reading comic books. We have encouraged Duong’s mother to contact the school to ask if they can provide special care for him so that he can return. He is a very smart little boy indeed.
All in all the day was a success, Diana and Sigrid had a wonderful time with the children and they too were delighted at the company as you can see by the photos. The families are very appreciative of the support HIWC has given them. We would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all of HIWC for their generosity.
